Explain why some of the leaves
may get detached from a tree if
we vigorously shake its branch.
When a tree branch is shaken, leaves detach due to inertia of rest, a concept from Newton’s first law of motion. Before the branch is shaken, both the branch and the leaves are at rest. When the branch is shaken, it moves, but the leaves tend to remain at their stationary state due to inertia. This difference in motion causes the leaves to detach from the branch and fall.
