Dense forests exhibit less soil erosion than barren fields due to the protective effect of their vegetation, including the canopy and root systems. The canopy acts as a shield, preventing raindrops from directly impacting the soil, reducing the force of water runoff and soil particle detachment. Furthermore, the intricate network of roots binds soil particles together, increasing soil stability and resistance to erosion from wind and water. Barren fields, lacking this protection, are more susceptible to erosion, as falling rain, wind, and water can readily carry away loose soil particles.
