Explain two ways in which human activities pollute the air.
Propose one action which can help in reducing air pollution.
Human activities significantly contribute to air pollution in two main ways: through industrial processes and transportation. One action to reduce air pollution is to encourage public transportation, which decreases the number of vehicles on the road, thus reducing emissions from burning fossil fuels.
Two ways human activities pollute the air:
1. Industrial Processes:
Industrial activities, such as manufacturing, energy generation (especially from burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas), and chemical production, release various pollutants into the atmosphere. These pollutants include gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and particulate matter.
2. Transportation:
The combustion of fossil fuels in vehicles, such as cars, trucks, buses, and airplanes, releases a significant amount of air pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and VOCs.
Action to reduce air pollution:
Encourage public transportation: Using public transportation options like buses, trains, or subways instead of individual vehicles reduces the overall number of vehicles on the road. This leads to a decrease in the amount of fuel burned, which, in turn, reduces the release of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
