A GM crop, or genetically modified crop, is a plant whose DNA has been altered through genetic engineering to obtain desired traits. In India, Bt cotton is a well-known example of a GM crop. It has been genetically modified to be resistant to bollworm, a major pest of cotton, by introducing a gene from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis.
